Adobe Acrobat DC is a PDF tool from Adobe Systems. You can use it to view, create, and print PDF files. Acrobat comes with two different themes: dark and light. This wikiHow article will teach you how to activate the dark theme on Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
Use Dark Theme in Adobe Acrobat Reader & Pro
To mimic dark mode, go to Menu (PC only) > View > Display Theme > Dark grey, then change the page background color on your computer in Preferences > Accessibility > Custom Colors and choose a dark grey background and a white text. Changes made in "Accessibility" will not affect the printed page or other computers.
Steps
-
Open the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC app. Use the Start menu to easily find the app. If you don't have the latest version of Acrobat, download from get.adobe.com/reader/ for free.
-
Click Menu. It's in the top left corner of the app window and drops down more options.
- If you're using Mac, skip this step since View is in the menu bar at the top of your screen.

Select View. More options will open to the right.
-
Select Display Theme. More options will open to the side.
-
Select Dark gray. This option will change the UI to a darker color, but the canvas you're working on will still appear white.[1]
- If you want to mimic a more exact Dark Theme, continue on to the next section.
-
Select Menu (PC) or Acrobat (Mac). Either option is in the top left corner of your screen.
- This change won't affect the color of the page when you print it out or the color of the page when the PDF is viewed on other computers.
-
Select Preferences. You can also open "Preferences" directly with a keyboard shortcut:
- Ctrl + K on PC.
- Cmd + , on Mac.
-
Click Accessibility. It's in the menu on the left in the 2nd grouping.
-
Click the box next to "Replace Document Colors" to check it. Once checked, more options will be available.
-
Select Custom Color. You need to select this option to be able to pick the colors of your canvas.[2]
-
Choose a dark color for "Page Background" and a lighter color for "Document Text". Since pure white text on all black is harsher on the eyes[3] , you should aim for a dark grey background instead.
-
Click Ok. Clicking this closes the window so you can see the Dark grey theme with your colored canvas.
