What exactly is “the ick”?

“The ick” is that abrupt feeling of disgust you get when your potential partner or significant other is doing something cringe-y, awkward, or gross. It often feels more like a visceral physical reaction, rather than a rational thought. Luckily the ick tends to pass pretty quickly, but for that brief moment, it’s almost like all your attraction for the person disappears.[1]


Why do people get “the ick”?

We hate to see things we don’t like about ourselves in other people, so if your partner has a cringe-y habit you’re guilty of too, you may be more likely to see it as a major turn-off. How To Avoid “The Ick” in a Relationship
