Do you want to hide your phone number or Caller ID for privacy reasons or does no one answer your calls because they don't recognize your full name? You can easily use Settings in your iPhone to hide your Caller ID, but if you want to change it, you'll have to get in contact with your carrier. This wikiHow article teaches you how to change or hide your Caller ID on an iPhone.
How to Update Your Caller ID
You can’t change the details of your Caller ID on iPhone, but you can do so by contacting your cellular carrier. To toggle your Caller ID on or off, go to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID.
Steps
Hiding Your Caller ID in Settings
-
Open Settings . Tap the app icon that looks like some gears on a light grey background.[3]
-
Tap Phone. It's next to an icon of a hand-held phone receiver on a green background. You’ll need to scroll down in the Settings menu to find it.
-
Tap Show my Caller ID. You'll see this under the "Calls" header. You might need to scroll down to see it.
-
Tap the switch to turn it off . If the switch is grey, then your Caller ID will not show when you call people.
- With Caller ID off, the people you call will see "No Caller ID" or "Unknown," and many of these calls are usually ignored and unanswered. Some people may block these calls.
Personalizing Your Contact Info in Contacts
-
Open the Contacts app. While editing your information in Contacts won’t technically affect your caller ID, it allows you to personalize what your contacts see when you call or message them. To get started, open the Contacts app.[4]
-
Tap My Card. It’s at the very stop of the screen, under your name and profile picture.
-
Select Contact Photo & Poster. It’s at the top of the menu, under the large version of your profile picture.
-
Toggle on Name & Photo Sharing. This will share your chosen name and image with your contacts when you call or message them. Once you’ve done that, you can make further adjustments from the same menu:
- Tap the Name field to enter a new first and last name for yourself.
- You can also tap the Edit button to customize the display screen that your contacts see when you call by adding a Contact Photo and/or a Poster.
- Once you’ve made the changes you like, select Share Automatically or Always Ask to determine if your contacts automatically see this information.
-
Go back to the main My Card screen. When you’re done, tap Back in the top left corner to return to the My Card menu.
-
Tap Edit in the top right corner. From here, you can fine-tune your contact information even more. For instance, you can:
- Customize your first and last name
- Add a new contact photo for yourself
- Add a company name
- Enter additional phone numbers and email addresses
- Update your preferred pronouns
- Set a custom ringtone and message alert
- Enter links and social profiles
- Set your birth date
- Enter a medical ID
