Change your Caller ID on your iPhone by contacting your carrier or hide it using Settings
PDF download Download Article

Do you want to hide your phone number or Caller ID for privacy reasons or does no one answer your calls because they don't recognize your full name? You can easily use Settings in your iPhone to hide your Caller ID, but if you want to change it, you'll have to get in contact with your carrier. This wikiHow article teaches you how to change or hide your Caller ID on an iPhone.

How to Update Your Caller ID

You can’t change the details of your Caller ID on iPhone, but you can do so by contacting your cellular carrier. To toggle your Caller ID on or off, go to Settings > Phone > Show My Caller ID.

Changing Your ID with Your Carrier

  1. Caller IDs show the name and number associated with the information the carrier has for you, so it may not be exactly what you want to appear when you call people. To change it, get in contact with your cellular carrier, such as AT&T or T-Mobile.
    • For example, if you go by your middle name at work, but your carrier only has your first and last name, it's likely that no one from work will answer your calls because they don't recognize the name.
    • Your carrier may be able to help you make the change over the phone, or they might direct you to their app or website so you can update the information yourself.
  2. T-Mobile, for example, has an app that allows you to manage your account, so you can use the app to change your name. Not every carrier has an app that you can use. Look for one in the App Store or check for information on your carrier’s website.
    • If the carrier's website doesn't advertise a mobile app, they most likely don't have one. Instead, use the website or call them!
    • To do this in the T-Mobile mobile app, open it and go to tap T-Mobile on the Home screen, then navigate to More > Profile Settings > Caller ID. Select the line you want to edit and change the first and last name as you'd like them to appear in your Caller ID. Finally, tap Save Caller ID name.[1]

  3. You may be able to log in and change your Caller ID without talking to anyone! Most carriers have a website that you can log into and/or an app you can use, but if they don't, you'll need to call them.
    • For example, for AT&T users, go to the website and log in, then go to People & permissions > Show details > Edit, enter the updated Caller ID, and select Save.[2]

Tips

  • Not all carriers allow you to turn off caller ID, so you might not see or change this option in your settings.[5]
  • Even if caller ID is turned off on your iPhone, people you call on FaceTime will still see your number.[6]
  • If you change your Caller ID with your carrier, it may take up to 72 hours for the change to be reflected when you make calls. The people you call might also need to clear their Caller ID records before they see the change.
