It is always a good habit to occasionally change the password of your social media accounts, or other accounts for that matter, for internet security. For the Facebook app on Android, whether you have forgotten your password or just want to change it for security purposes, changing your password is easy. Here's how to change your Facebook account password on an Android device.

Quick Steps

  1. Open Facebook and tap .
  2. Go to Settings & privacy > Settings.
  3. Open the Meta Accounts Center.
  4. Go to Password and security > Change password.
  5. Select your Facebook account.
  6. Enter your current password, then type in your new password twice.
  7. Tap Change password.

    • If you aren't already logged in, enter your email address or phone number and password to do so now.
    • If you’ve forgotten your password and aren’t currently logged in, you’ll need to reset it from the login screen.

  9. On the next screen, you’ll be prompted to enter the current password for your account. Enter your new password twice in the next two fields.
    • If you like, you can choose to log out of any other devices when you update your password. This is a good idea if you think someone else logged into your account.
    • If you’re currently logged in but don’t remember your password, tap the Forgot your password? link and follow the prompts to reset it.
  10. You should now be able to log into Facebook with your new password.
  11. According to Facebook’s Help Center, some people may still be unable to access the Meta Accounts Center.[1] If this is the case for you, try one of these alternative methods:
    • Go to ☰ More > Settings & privacy > Privacy checkup. Scroll down to the Account settings section and tap How to keep your account secure. Select Review, and then Change password.
    • If you’re using an older version of the Facebook app, you may be able to change your password by going to ☰ More > Settings & privacy > Settings > Password and security > Change Password.

Using Android Browser

  1. Go to https://www.facebook.com. You can use any mobile browser installed on your device.
  2. Enter your login information on the fields provided, and tap “Log in” to continue.
    • Accessing Facebook from your Android’s web browser will take you to Facebook’s mobile web page. It will look very similar to the Facebook app’s interface.

  4. This will expand a Settings menu.
  5. It’s the first option on the expanded menu.

    • If you’re already logged in but don’t remember your current password, tap Forgot your password? and follow the prompts to reset it.
    • Make sure the Log out of other devices option is checked if you’re afraid someone else has hacked into your account.
  11. When you’ve entered your new password, select the Change password button at the bottom of the screen. You can now log into Facebook with your new login information.

  4. You'll receive an email link to reset your password, or a code.
    • If you used your mobile number, you may need to verify via code.
  5. If you were sent an email link to reset your password, after resetting, you will be asked to create a new password. Enter the new password in the first box and confirm it in the second box. Click “Continue” to save your new password.
