Where to Get Tera Shards

Pokemon's 9th Generation introduced a brand new mechanic called Terastallizing. When your Pokemon Terastallizes, it becomes more powerful and gets a Tera Type—which usually matches the type of your Pokemon. However, if you have 50 Tera Shards of one particular type, you can change your Pokemon's Tera Type to get the upper hand in battle. In this article, we'll teach you how to change a Pokemon's Tera Type and get more Tera Shards in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Things You Should Know

You can change a Pokemon's type by going to the Treasure Eatery in Medali and talking to the chef.
You must have defeated Gym Leader Larry before you can change your Pokemon's Tera Type.
To change your Pokemon's Tera Type, you must have 50 Tera Shard of the type you want to change the Tera Type to.

In order to change your Pokemon's Tera Type, you must have defeated Medali's Gym Leader, Larry.
While this is the location where you fight Medali's Gym Leader, you can also talk to the chef behind the counter to change your Pokemon's Tera Type.^{[1]

Where to Get Tera Shards

You can get Tera Shards from Tera Raid Battles. You must do Tera Raid Battles that are at least 3-star difficulty or higher to get Tera Shards.^{[2]

Research source} The Tera Shards you get will match the raid boss's Tera Type. Higher-difficulty raids usually reward you more Tera Shards.
- Tera Raid Battles can be found by interacting with the crystal caves that spawn around the map.^{[3]

- You can farm more Tera Shards by eating a Raid Power sandwich before raiding. Check your sandwich ingredients and recipes and try to make a Level 2 or Level 3 Raid Power sandwich to increase the amount of drops you get from a raid.
If you see a glowing Pokemon in the wild, that means the Pokemon has a random Tera Type. If you defeat or catch one of these Pokemon, they can give you a few Tera Shards when you finish the battle.
The chef at Treasure Eatery will give you 50 normal Tera Shards the first time you speak to her. You can get 50 rock Tera Shards from Tyme and 50 dragon Tera Shards from Hassel at the academy after completing their respective storylines.
