If you're not in love with your current TikTok username, TikTok has thankfully made it easy to change it. But if you go to change your username, you might be confused to see two spots where you can enter a name. Which one are you supposed to change? On TikTok, you must have a username and a nickname, though your nickname defaults to your username if you don't change it. You can change both your username and your nickname in your TikTok profile settings, and we'll show you how.
Updating Your TikTok Username or Nickname
- Open TikTok and go to your profile.
- Tap the Edit profile button under your username.
- Tap Username to edit your username, which can be changed once every 30 days.
- Tap Name to edit your nickname, which can be changed once a week.
- Tap Save to apply your changes.
Steps
-
Open TikTok and tap the Profile button. It's in the lower-right corner and has an icon of a person on it.
-
Tap Edit profile. This button is under your username, profile picture, and account stats.Advertisement

Tap Username. Don't click Name as this will edit your account nickname instead.[1]
-
Enter your desired username. You can use letters, numbers, underscores, and periods in your username, but note that periods cannot be at the end of your username.
- You must pick a unique username and can only change your username once every 30 days.
- If you give up a username, you will not be able to use that username on a different account for a short time, but TikTok does not specify how long this period is.
- Changing your username also changes the URL to your profile.

Tap Save. Your username will be automatically updated.
