Is the email address associated with your Apple ID outdated? If you want to change the email address for your iCloud account, you can easily do so from your iPhone or iPad settings or by using a computer. If you just want to add another email to your iCloud account without changing your Apple ID, you can do so instead.

Changing Your iCloud Email: Quick Tips

Open your iPhone or iPad's settings, tap your name, and tap "Sign-In & Security." Tap "Edit" above your current iCloud email, tap the minus sign, and then tap "Delete." Follow the on-screen instructions to add a new address.

    • If you don't want to change your iCloud email address entirely but want to add a second email to your account (which can make it easier for friends and family to find you on FaceTime, Messages, and other Apple services), don't tap the remove button—instead, tap Add Email or Phone Number > Add an Email Address, and enter a new email address. You'll then receive a confirmation code at your new email address that you'll need to enter to complete the action.
  5. A pop-up will appear, instructing you to choose another email address.
  6. If prompted, enter your passcode to continue.
    • You can't add an email address that is already associated with another Apple ID.
    • You will not be able to change your iCloud email address to a new iCloud address you've created within the last 30 days. If you just created a new iCloud email address, wait 30 days before adding it to your Apple ID.[1]
  7. A verification code will be sent to your new email address to confirm.
  8. You'll find the code in the email from Apple.
    • If you are changing the email to one that you already listed as a secondary contact email (seen under "Reachable At"), you will not need to verify it, as you already verified the email when adding it.

  2. You'll see it under "Sign-In and Security."
  3. A pop-up will appear, asking you to enter a new Apple ID.
    • If you don't want to change your iCloud email address, you can keep the existing one in place and instead click the Add + button to add another address. Just make sure not to use an address that's already associated with an Apple ID.

Tips

  • It's impossible to change your actual icloud.com email address—in other words, you can't change "me@icloud.com" to "me2@icloud.com." The only way to get a different iCloud.com address is to create a new account.
  • If you have an Apple email address (ending in @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com), you can only change your Apple ID email address to a different Apple email address.
