PDF download Download Article

You’re browsing online and you find a better deal for an item you just purchased at Macy’s. But is there anything you can do to get your money back? While Macy’s no longer price matches competitors, they do have their own unique price adjustment service. In this article, we’ll explain everything you need to know about their price adjustment policy so you can check if your purchase qualifies (and score the best deal).

Things You Should Know

  • While Macy’s doesn’t price match other retailers, they do offer price adjustments for their own products.
  • If you find a Macy's product on their website for cheaper than you initially paid for it, you can get a refund for the difference.
  • You have 10 days after purchasing an item to request a price adjustment.

Macy’s Policy

  1. While Macy’s doesn’t price match competitors anymore, they do match their own prices in store and online. You can request a price adjustment if you find a lower price for your exact item on Macy’s website and your original purchase wasn’t made with a promo code or discount offer. If your item qualifies, they will refund you the difference to your original form of payment.[1]
    • Macy’s only offers price adjustments for online listings on their site, not in-store listings.
    • Items shipped and sold by third-party sellers do not qualify for price adjustments.
    • Macy’s only accepts price requests submitted by customers, not applications or third-parties (i.e. Capital One Shopping).
    • If you’re requesting a price adjustment for an online purchase, the 10-day price adjustment request period begins on the day you place your order—not the day you receive it.

How to Request a Price Adjustment

  1. Search for a cheaper listing of your exact item on Macy’s website. Then, bring your purchase receipt and proof of the lower price listing to any Macy’s cashier. If your item is eligible for a price adjustment, the cashier will refund you the price difference to your original form of payment on the spot.[2]
  2. Once you find a better deal online, start a virtual chat with a Macy’s customer service representative or email them at customerservice@macys.com. Provide the Macy’s representative your order number, email address, first and last name, phone number, shipping address, items to adjust, and sale date. Then, tell them your price adjustment request to see if your item is eligible.[3]
    • Alternatively, you can call 1-800-BUY-MACY (1-800-289-6229) and request a price adjustment, but it might take longer than chat or email if you’re placed on hold.
    • Macy’s virtual chat is available Monday through Sunday from 9AM to 12AM (EST), excluding holidays.

Furniture & Mattress Policy

  1. For furniture and mattress purchases, Macy’s has a slightly different price adjustment policy than the rest of their merchandise. To qualify, you must email them your salescheck number, order number, email address, first and last name, phone number, shipping address, items to adjust, and sale date. And, their 10-day price adjustment request window varies by purchase:[4]
    • White Glove, In-Home & Room of Choice: 10 days from the date of delivery
    • Parcel from Warehouse: 10 days from the date your item is shipped from the warehouse
    • Parcel from Vendor: 10 days from the date your item is shipped from the vendor

Additionally, Macy’s only refunds up to $100 price difference for furniture and mattresses.[5]

Special Conditions & Exclusions

  1. Make sure that the brand, size, color, and model specifications of the lower-priced item matches the item you bought. Even if there’s a minor difference, it may disqualify your price adjustment request.[6]
  2. If you purchased an online or in-store item with a promo code or special offer, it doesn’t qualify for any price adjustment. This includes retail holidays like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Christmas Savings Events.[7]
  3. If your item is processed by Macy’s Digital Marketplace or their Direct from Vendor sellers, it isn’t eligible for a price adjustment. Before purchasing an item online, check if there’s any text underneath the name of the product: if it says “Sold and shipped by Hope & Henry (or any other brand),” it indicates it’s a third-party seller.[8]
  4. Unlike the 10-day price adjustment request window for most of their merchandise, Macy’s offers price adjustments within 14 days for iPhones and 30 days for all other Apple products.[9]
