Do you need a way to sign up for WhatsApp without using your real phone number? If you want an extra layer of security when using WhatsApp, you may want to use a fake number instead of your actual mobile number. Fortunately, getting a second number for WhatsApp can be easy with an eSIM or another SIM card. This wikiHow article teaches you how to acquire a fake number for use on WhatsApp. Beware that 3rd party apps might not work with WhatsApp.
Things You Should Know
- Because 3rd-party apps mostly don't work, you'll need a virtual number that you pay for.
- An easy option is signing up with US Mobile and getting an eSIM for a "Talk & Text" plan.
- After you sign up for your eSIM, add it to your phone in "Connections."
Steps
-
Go to https://www.usmobile.com/plans US Mobile and sign up. Use a web browser on your computer to view this site to sign up and get your eSIM. To set up an eSIM on your phone, you'll need to take a picture of your email on your computer screen.[1]
- Doing this will temporarily sign you up for an eSIM that you can use for verification purposes on WhatsApp. You'll need to pay for a plan for the US Mobile number.
-
2Click Talk & Text. It's a tile on the right side of the page that you may need to scroll to find.Advertisement
-
Pick a plan. If you don't plan on using the eSIM for anything more than WhatsApp, the best option is the cheapest option for 500 MB of Talk & Text.
- Click a plan to select it.
-
Continue the registration process. Scroll down and follow the on-screen prompts to create your US Mobile account and activate your eSIM. Click the blue text under the "eSIM activation" header to see if your phone is on the list of eligible phones.
- If not, you can sign up for a "Starter Kit activation," which includes a physical SIM.
- Once your account is active, click Activate my trial and you'll see a checkout window so you can pay the upfront fee to get your eSIM activated.
-
Start a trial and select a zip code. Use something that's less populated for a higher chance of getting the number you want quickly.
- Example zip codes are 308, 385, or 775.
-
Checkout and pay for your eSIM. Once you've sent the payment, you'll get an email with a QR code.
-
Add a new eSIM to your phone. Go to "Settings > Connections > Add eSIM and tap the + icon. Finally, select the option to Download a SIM instead and Use a different network.
- On your computer or tablet, open your email and navigate to the message from US Mobile that has the QR code.
- Scan the QR code using your phone and tap Download once prompted. Once that's done, go back to Settings and turn on the US Mobile eSIM. Tap Verizon so you can receive the verification text from WhatsApp.
- After you have the eSIM ready, you can open WhatsApp and use the second number to verify it.
-
Download a 3rd party app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Begin by searching for and downloading an app that claims to offer fake numbers for WhatsApp from your phone's app store. Most apps offer to create "burner" numbers for apps that require verification, like WhatsApp.
- In order to prevent scammers and spammers, WhatsApp has begun blocking many of these apps, including Google Voice, from verifying accounts. Not all of them will work, even though they claim to work.
-
Open the app and sign up. Most of these apps require you to create a username and password. Sign up to continue, clicking Create Account to complete the process.
- Also be sure to grant the app any permissions it may request.
-
Generate a phone number. You have a couple of different options for generating your fake number. You may either Use my location to create a fake number based on where you currently are, or manually type in an area code of your choosing.
-
Select your fake number. The app will give you alternatives if the number you want is taken.
-
Copy your new phone number. Now that this number is allocated to you, you need to copy it so we can later paste it into WhatsApp. You can tap on the number to copy it.
-
Paste your new number into WhatsApp when prompted. WhatsApp will ask you for your phone number during the account setup process. Be sure to choose the appropriate country for your number, and paste the number into the field.
-
Wait for your verification code. WhatsApp will send a 6-digit code to your new number to verify it. You will receive the text via the 3rd party app. If you do not receive the code for any reason, ask WhatsApp to Call Me to receive the number via a call. Enter the code into WhatsApp. You now have WhatsApp attached to a fake number!
