Learn to unlock the portal to the Isle of Thunder
PDF download Download Article

The Isle of Thunder is a swampy, fortress-like island on the continent of Pandaria just northwest of Kun-Lai Summit and Townlong Steppes. On the Isle of Thunder, the Alliance and Horde forces will work together with the Shado-Pan to assault the Thunder King. In addition to daily quests, there are tons fun achievements, a trove of important items, and lots of lore to explore. You can get to the Isle through a portal in Townlong Steppes after reaching level 90.[1] This wikiHow teaches you how to find and use the portal to the Isle of Thunder in World of Warcraft.

How Do You Get to the Isle of Thunder?

Go to your faction’s shrine and accept the Thunder Calls quest. Travel to your faction camp outside Shado-Pan Garrison in the central region of Townlong Steppes. Talk to Vereesa Windrunner to start The Storm Gathers quest—she will accompany you to the Isle of Thunder.

  1. Don't try to fly to the Isle of Thunder—you'll be blocked by impenetrable mists and die of exhaustion! Instead, start at your faction's shrine to get your first quest. Alliance members must go to Shrine of Seven Stars, while Horde members must go to Shrine of Two Moons.[2]
    • You'll need to be at max level and have the WoW Mists of Pandaria patch (5.2) patch to get to the Isle of Thunder.
  2. If you're Alliance, you'll get the quest from Lyalia. If you're Horde, you'll get the quest from Sunwalker Dezco. You'll be told that it's time to attack the Thunder King, and that you should report to your faction camp in Townlong Steppes.[3]

  3. The Alliance camp is near the shore north of the garrison, while the Horde camp is south of the garrison. This is where you'll find the quest giver for The Storm Gathers, your next quest.
    • If you are Horde, go to 50.7, 73.4 to find the quest giver.
    • If you are Alliance, you'll find the quest giver at 49.7, 68.7.
  4. Once you get the quest, Vereesa will accompany you to the Isle of Thunder.
    • You only have to do this one time—after finishing the quest, you'll be able to take the portal to the Isle of Thunder from Shado-Pan Garrison.[4]
