To grow your hair out, simple don't cut it too short. Still go in for trims to avoid split ends, but make sure they only cut a few centimeters each time until your hair is the length you want. Once you have reached your desired length, cut however much you need to maintain it. There's a wikiHow article on growing a flow hairstyle, and in my opinion (coming from a girl), a flow haircut looks good on anyone.
