Melted marshmallows are used for a lot of different things in baking. You can make frosting, icing, or a variety of muffins and cakes from melted marshmallows. The easiest way to melt marshmallows is by placing them in a microwave. You can melt the marshmallows to use them in whatever you're making next, or microwave them with the specific intention of making icing.

  1. Marshmallows will expand when heated and melted, so make sure your bowl is 3 to 4 times larger than the amount of marshmallows you want to use. There are symbols that you can find on the underside of the bowl which show that it's safe to use:
    • A symbol of a dish with wavy lines above it indicates that the bowl is safe to use in the microwave.
    • A symbol of plain wavy lines also means that the bowl is safe to use.

    Don't fill the bowl with the marshmallows. If you want to melt a lot of marshmallows, fill a few different bowls around a quarter of the way.[1]
