This wikiHow article teaches you how to organize and rearrange the apps on your Samsung Galaxy's home screen and app drawer. Whether you have a Samsung phone or tablet, you can organize your app icons into folders, move them around on the home screen, and sort them in a custom or alphabetical order using Samsung's OneUI interface. Organize your apps in a way that works for you.
Quickly Organize Apps on a Samsung Galaxy
To create a folder on your home screen, tap and drag one app onto another app to add both to a new folder. You can then name the folder and add other apps to keep things organized.
Steps
-
Tap and hold an app you want to add to a folder. This method will help you create folders on your home screen for grouping apps by type or purpose. The icon will bounce when you can continue.
-
Drag the app onto another app. When you lift your finger, you'll see a new folder containing both apps.Advertisement
-
Name the folder. This could be something that describes and organizes the apps, such as “Productivity” or “Social Media.” Tap Folder name at the top, then type the name you want to see on your home screen.
-
Tap + to add more apps. This makes it easy to organize multiple apps into this folder without dragging and dropping each one.
-
Select apps to add and tap Done. The selected apps are now in the new folder.
- Now that your folder is created, you can drag other apps to it from anywhere on your Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet.
- To delete a folder, tap and hold it, select Delete folder, then tap DELETE FOLDER.[1]
-
Open the App Drawer on your Galaxy. You can do this by swiping up from the bottom of the home screen or tapping the Apps icon (often 9 small squares or dots).
- If you have a different launcher, like Nova Launcher or Smart Launcher, you might not have the same options.
-
Tap and hold an app you want to add to a folder. A menu will appear.
-
Tap Select. It's the checkmark in a circle on the left side of the menu. When you tap it, circles appear at the corners of each app in the drawer.[2]
-
Tap each app you want to add to the folder. Check marks will appear in the circles of selected apps.
-
Tap Create folder. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen.
-
Type a name for the folder. Tap Enter folder name to start typing.
-
Tap + if you want to add more apps to the folder. Otherwise, tap anywhere outside of the box to return the app drawer. Your new folder is now in the drawer.
- To add more apps to the folder, drag an app from the app drawer and drop it into the folder.
- To delete a folder, tap and hold it, select Delete folder, then tap DELETE FOLDER.

Tap ⁝. It’s at the top-right corner of the app drawer.

Tap Sort. It's the first item on the menu.
- If you want the apps to be ordered alphabetically by title, select Alphabetical order. This should be the default. If you prefer to have your apps this way, skip the rest of this method. Pick the option that best suits your needs and preferences.

Tips
-
Usually, you have more apps than you can put on one page. If you really want all your apps on one page, sort them into folders using the first method above, then put all the folders on one page. Thanks
-
Adjust your Home screen settings in Settings > Home screen. With other launchers, like Nova Launcher, you can edit the folder tags to appear at the top of the folder icon instead of below it.Thanks
