Want to share a GIF with your Discord server or friend? You can use Discord's library, or you can upload GIFs from your computer. You can also post a GIF using a link. Here's how to post GIFs in a Discord chat on a PC or Mac computer.

Uploading and Using GIFs in Discord

To use Discord's built-in GIF gallery, click GIF in the text field and select a GIF. To upload a GIF to Discord, drag and drop the GIF file into the text field. You can also copy and paste the GIF link in the chat.

  1. You can use the Discord desktop application or in a web browser at https://discord.com/.
  2. This is on the right side of the text field, between the Gift Nitro and Stickers icon.[1]
    • A pop-up menu will open.

  3. On the GIFs homepage, you'll see popular categories. Click one to open the GIFs in that category, or enter keywords into the search bar at the top of the menu.
  4. This will send the GIF immediately.
    • If you need to delete a GIF, hover over the GIF or message and select •••. Then, click Delete Message.

  1. Navigate to a server or DM. You can use the Discord desktop application or in a web browser at https://discord.com/.
    • Use this method to upload and share a GIF saved onto your computer.
  2. This is on the left side of the text field.
  3. A pop-up window will open.
  4. Alternatively, you can drag and drop the GIF file directly into the text field.
    • You'll see a preview of your GIF in the text field.
  5. This will send your GIF.

  1. You can use websites such as https://giphy.com/ or https://tenor.com/ to find GIFs online.
  2. A drop-down menu will open.
  3. This is different from Copy Image, which will save the GIF as a PNG or JPEG (still image) file.
    • On some GIF-hosting websites, you'll need to click their Share link to get the GIF link.
  4. You can use the Discord desktop application or in a web browser at https://discord.com/.
  5. This will send the GIF.
