Exfoliating with a toothbrush or scrub will remove any dead skin from the surface of your lips but it doesn’t change the color. If your lips are naturally dark this method won’t make much of a difference.

Some people's natural lip color is dark. You can minimize darkness by wearing lip products with SPF and exfoliate them a few times a month. An olive oil and brown sugar scrub works well for exfoliating.

  • Question
How can I remove dark marks from my lips? Exfoliating isn't working anymore.
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Obviously, you've been exfoliating too much. Exfoliating rubs away the dry, dead skin and reveals a new, fresh layer. If you do that too much, you will dry out the nice layer. In fact, advice for people with dry skin is to not exfoliate often, as it will just make the dry or peeled skin situation worse. I would start using lipbalm, and dialing back on the exfoliation. You can use Baby Lips brand of lipbalm, in a pink color. To get rid of the marks, you can go to your dermatologist and get a steroid for your lips to get rid of the marks. Also, don't pick/peel your lips.
