You could buy a cage to keep it in while you're away. Another option is to hire a pet sitter.
  • Question
Would a cat attack a pigeon?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
It depends on the personality of the cat and whether or not it grew up with the pigeon. Always be very cautious when allowing birds and cats to interact with one another. Cats are predators and birds are prey.
  • Question
I keep my pigeons outside and they can fly out of there cage any time they want. What should I do with the cat, dog, horse, and the other two cats while my pigeons are out of the cage?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
The dog and horse will not bother your pigeons so you do not have to worry about them. The cats will need to be kept away from your pigeons as they could harm your pigeons. Try to keep your cats indoors.

Kittens that grow up around birds are less likely to attack a bird, but even when trained to be friendly around birds, the hunter instinct in the cat's blood just can't be removed, especially when around smaller, bite sized birds. Always monitor your cat when around your bird and check for signs of aggressive behavior.

  • Question

It all depends on how they get along. You can't really just introduce them and expect that they will get along right away. You have to train the cat. You need to introduce them slowly, carefully, and it is recommended to start with the bird in the cage so that it is safe, just in case. You also need to make sure that the bird has their flight feathers. Without the flight feathers, the bird cannot fly away if something goes wrong. Finally, never leave them alone together, always be present if they are near each other without the cage for safety.
