  • Question
Could eating too much junk food lead to thinned, brittle, or damaged hair?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Yes! Junk food lacks the important nutrients and vitamins that your hair needs in order to be thick, shiny, and healthy, such as: biotin, sulfur, cobalt, copper, and selenium. Keep in mind that poor diet is not the only factor that can lead to unhealthy hair, but also things like: environment, stress, excessive shampooing, and using the wrong type of shampoo.
  • Question
How do I find sulfate-free shampoo?

  • Question
Why do I rip my hair out when I comb it?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
It may be that you brush your hair too roughly. The trick is to not comb from the top of the head like it is usually advised, but grab your hair about a third of the way from the bottom and gently remove the knots at the ends (preferably with a comb, not a brush) and the work your way to the roots. When you think you have removed the bigger knots, you can make long strokes from the scalp to the end of your hair. It's also best to use a wide-toothed comb first and then a fine-toothed one.
  • Question
Some people eat junk food in large amounts, but their hair is thick as ever. How is that possible?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Some people just have naturally thick hair. Others don't and have to work for it. However, in the long run, eating healthy is better for you in a ton of ways. The people who eat a lot of junk food will pay a price for it eventually, even if it's not affecting their appearance right now.
  • Question

  • Question
How do I make my hair thick again after it has thinned out recently?

  • Question

  • Question
What should I eat to make my hair thick?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Hair needs protein to produce keratin, which makes hair strands stronger, so eat protein-rich foods. Antioxidants help protect your body's cells against damage (ex: cranberries, blueberries, and blackberries, certain fruits, dark greens.). Magnesium helps maintain healthy hair and nails (ex: whole grains, avocados, yogurt, bananas, dried fruit, dark chocolate). Silicon is a trace mineral thought to increase circulation to the scalp (ex: red wine, beer, raisins, whole-grain bread, bran cereal, brown rice, green beans).
  • Question
Could touching my hair a lot throughout the day cause hair loss?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Not usually, unless your hair was fragile for some particular reason. Simply touching hair without pulling it can't cause hair loss. This is, of course, presuming that you're touching it with your fingers. Touching it with scissors, a hot hair straightener, etc., could result in hair loss if you cut or burn the hair.
  • Question
Will tying my hair in a ponytail promote hair growth by pulling on the follicles?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
No! The only thing it will do is pull the hair out. Consider brushing your hair instead; this will keep it healthy and help get rid of any loose hair.
  • Question
I can't stop picking the scabs on my scalp. What can I do?

  • Question
Will going completely bald help me to make hair grow thicker?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Whether you go bald or just get regular haircuts will not make a difference in how your hair grows out. If you really dislike the look of your hair and just want a fresh start, feel free to do it. But it's not going to make the new growth any thicker than it would otherwise be. How you take care of your hair/scalp and yourself in general is what affects that. In addition to the factors mentioned in the article, applying castor oil and/or coconut oil to your scalp may help.
