Hoping to add a perfect Garchomp to your team? You've got good taste—a Garchomp is a very strong and cool pseudo-legendary Pokémon that can be practically invincible when trained well. We've outlined everything you need to know, so you can add this crazy-strong Pokémon to your roster in Pokémon Diamond, Pokémon Pearl, or Pokémon Platinum.

1

Catch a Gible with a good nature.

  1. You can either keep on catching Gible until you get one or you can breed until you get one. Giving the Gible parent an Everstone to hold will probably increase the chances of getting a good nature. These natures are the ones that you'll want because they don't lower any of Garchomp's perfect stats.
    • Jolly might be the best, because then Salamence, Pikachu, and Celebi will not be faster than your Garchomp, and you can outrun faster Pokémon such as Gengar.

  • Question
Why should I give it attack and speed?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Giving it greater attack and speed abilities will mean it can do more damage to other Pokemon during battles.
  • Question
Should my Garchomp learn all Dragon type moves or all Ground type moves? Or two of each or different types of moves?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Different types of moves. If you don't teach it different types of moves, it won't be able to handle many types of Pokemon.
  • Question
Should I give it the moves Cynthia has for hers?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
It is a good moveset, but I don't recommend it, as you can't boost your Attack for Dragon Rush, and you won't get physical coverage for Clefable. It can hit Chansey/Blissey super effectively, but it doesn't matter due to their low physical defenses.

Tips

  • If you can, make sure you can back up Garchomp with plenty of Full Restores and Revives, as you have to expect the worst to happen all the time.
  • Its final moveset should be something like Earthquake, Dragon Claw, Stone Edge and Fire Fang. This is not the only moveset you should use; feel free to tweak it to your liking.
  • Sandstorm activates its Sand Veil ability so it is less likely to be hit, and all his other attacks have at least 100 power.
