How to Create Your Perfect Superhero Name
Reflect on your superhero’s powers and their past. What makes them special? What’s their backstory? Generally speaking, superheroes’ titles are related to their origin or abilities. Spiderman was bitten by a spider and has spider-like powers. The Flash is super speedy. To get the ball rolling, start with your superhero’s most relevant personal details and then brainstorm from there. If your hero has the power to control water, you might use words like “ripple,” “wave,” “current,” or “riptide,” for example.
Use words that are powerful and punchy. Generally speaking, your name should be short and it should hint at your superhero’s strength and abilities. Classic superhero names normally opt for words that feel powerful, daunting, or grand. So any word you choose that has to do with your superhero’s power or origin should also fit that theme. Let's say that your superhero can manipulate the ground. You might use a word like “Earthquake,” “Mountain,” or “Boulder” in your title, but you probably wouldn’t want to use “Pebble.”
Mix and match classic name elements. Some superhero names just use one word that references their power or origin (like, “Storm”), but in other cases, they include another descriptive word that's classically used in superhero titles. Examples would be: Girl, Boy, Man, Woman, Captain, Detective, etc. They also commonly use the superhero’s color theme (for example, “Red Tornado”). So, let's put everything together! If you had a superhero that was a girl, had a purple color scheme, and could fly, you might go with: The Raven, Starship, Purple Comet, or Rocket Girl.
