How to Unlock World 4 in Super Mario Bros. DS

In New Super Mario Bros for the DS, world 4 is an optional world. Unlocking it requires you to beat the castle level in World 2 while in Mini-Mario form. This wikiHow teaches you how to unlock World 4 in New Super Mario Bros for the DS.

World 2 is the desert world. Play all the way through World 2 until you get to the castle level.
You can find the mini-mushroom towards the end of the castle level. When you see the large rolling spike ball, jump on the rope that hangs over the spike ball. Swing and jump to the platform to the right that has two question mark boxes. The second box has a mini-mushroom. This transforms you into Mini-Mario.^{[1]

There's another power-up later in the level. Do not get it! You have to get to the end of the level as Mini-Mario.
In order to do damage to the worm as Mini-Mario, you will need to do a ground pound. Luckily as Mini-Mario, you can jump much higher. You can even bounce from one wall to the other. When the worm is directly under Mario, press down on the D-pad to do a ground pound. Repeat 3 times to defeat the worm. At the end of the level, Mini-Mario will be able to fall through the gap in the floor that leads to World 4.

What if my character dies at the end? Do I have to do it again?

No, it will give you another chance unless you have no lives left. Then it will give you a sign that says quit or continue and if you click quit, it will erase the whole thing. However, if you click continue, it will give you some more lives.

If you are having a hard time getting to the end of the level as Mini-Mario, revisit World 1-4. This level has a mini-mushroom and is much easier to beat. Get the mini-mushroom from this level and beat the level as Mini-Mario.

Then, play through level 1-4 again to get a backup mini-mushroom. Use the back-up mini-mushroom at the end of the World 2 castle and jump on the worm twice as regular Mario.

Then use the backup mini-mushroom and become Mini-Mario. Do a single ground pound on the worm to defeat him.

You can also get a Mini Mario by swinging widely from the rope above the huge spike. Landing on the ledge with the two boxes, and there is one in there.
Once the worm is defeated, activate the mini mushroom before grabbing the key. This is easier than fighting the worm as Mini Mario.
Save Mini Mario until the last jump. I jumped on the worm once while big and once while little and it still killed him.
Try not to jump onto the worm while it's coming out of the ground.
