Vegetable Personality Types

If you’ve taken our quiz, we’ve assigned you a vegetable, and rest assured that the wikiHow farmers are always right. But did you know that veggies themselves have a personality type system? It’s true, they told us themselves, and we’re here to break it down for you:

Root Veggies
Potatoes, carrots, beets, parsnips, ginger! Root veggies are exactly what they sound like: roots! They live underground, sucking up nutrients from the soil and growing big and tasty, waiting for the day the farmer comes and tugs from the dirt and into the light, where they can really show off their stuff. Root vegetables tend to be hardy, reliable, and filling, which makes them a great main course.

Cruciferous Veggies
Cruciferous vegetables are called that because their flowers have 4 petals that make the shape of a cross. They’re veggies like cabbage, broccoli, kohlrabi, cauliflower, and many more. They tend to be complex in appearance but totally lovely and flavorful inside, which, when you mention it, matches their gorgeous and captivating outsides!

Greens
Greens are a broad category that includes all things leafy. Lettuce, spinach, chard, arugula, kale. They’re the power players in the vegetable world, even though you might not think it. After all, what’s a salad without lettuce or spinach? Not much of a salad, if you ask us. Greens are also packed with nutrients that you won’t get in very many other places, so eat up!

Nightshades
Nightshades may sound a little intimidating, but they’re actually part of a bigger and broader family that’s not all that scary. Many vegetables are nightshades, but not all nightshades are veggies. They’re tomatoes, eggplants, bell peppers, and many different kinds of spices. They get a bad rap because they’re associated with a sort of poison, but they’re perfectly fine and friendly!

Just as with any personality type system, there’s a lot of overlap and mixing! It’s not one-size-fits-all, but lots of sizes can fit lots of veggies! So which type are you?
