Get to Know Your Soul
Since people could talk, we’ve been talking about souls, or at least something like them. Essences, selves, anima—whether spiritual, figurative, or literal, we’ve always wondered what it is that makes a person a person, that invisible force that gives us identity and personality and spirit.
Asking what a soul looks like is an impossible question, but a great exercise for learning more about yourself. We gave you our best answer based on your responses, but you can decide for yourself the shape of your soul! Here are some exercises to help you dive into yourself and glean a little something:
Meditate somewhere quiet
Find a place that’s free of distractions. Then, close your eyes, breathe deeply, and let your mind wander. Many people will tell you to “clear your mind,” but we think letting it roam freely tells you much more about your own hopes and fears. Take note of where it takes you, and where you want it to take you.
Meet strangers
Humans aren’t meant to be alone! Meeting new people expands your world and your perspective, and lets you bounce your own ideas and perceptions off of other people. When you mingle, you start to realize that you’re a small part of a much bigger whole, and that you have a place in that whole, one that’s special and indispensable.
Keep your mind open
It’s tempting to say, “This is who I am, and who I’ll always be,” but nothing could be further from the truth! Over the course of your life, you grow and change into many, many different people. That’s part of the joy of living. As you meditate, meet new people, and live your life, try to stay open-minded and be ready to change your own opinions or beliefs, rather than becoming stuck and stagnant.
