What Happens When You Stop Taking Mounjaro?

Mounjaro is an injectable treatment that was approved by the FDA in 2022 to help with blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 diabetes. It's known to cause weight loss in the people who use it, but what happens when you stop taking the medication?

  • Appetite increase. Mounjaro is known to suppress users' appetites, but when people go off the drug, their appetite might bounce back.
  • Blood sugar increase. As mentioned, Mounjaro was created to decrease blood sugar levels in people experiencing Type 2 diabetes. So naturally, when users then go off of the drug, their blood sugar levels typically return to previous levels.
  • Weight gain. Though this isn't always the case, some users do gain back the weight after going back on Mounjaro. Some patients reported that they gained 1/3 of the weight they lost back.
  • Digestive problems. There are common digestive symptoms that sometimes occur alongside Mounjaro when people first go on the drug. When the drug begins to leave their system, the same symptoms often return. These include cramps, vomiting, and constipation.
