PDF download Download Article

Have you ever seen a chain of connected X posts from one user and wondered, "How did they do that?" If so, this is the article for you! That chain of tweets is known as a "thread," and it's an X (formerly known as Twitter) feature that allows you to easily reply to your own tweets to add more information, continue a thought, or get around the 280 character limit. Keep reading to learn more.

Quick Steps

  1. Start writing a new post on X.
  2. Click or tap the + button at the bottom of the window.
  3. Write your next post in the thread.
  4. Add as many posts as you want by clicking or tapping +.
  5. Post the thread.
  1. Click on the Post button in the sidebar, or click into the textbox near the top of the screen. In the X app, tap on the blue + icon, which you can see at the bottom of the screen.
    • If you're not logged into X, you'll need to do that before you can post.
  2. Write something under 280 characters in the What's happening? field. Read How to Write a Good Tweet for tips on what to say.
    • If you go over the character limit, the text that is over the limit will be highlighted in red.
