Follow along as we take you through the steps of subscribing to Spotify Premium and get ready to take your music listening to a whole new level.

Signing Up for Premium

  • Sign up for Spotify Premium at https://www.spotify.com/us/premium.
  • If you haven't already used it, you can sign up for Spotify Premium’s 2-month free trial.
  • Premium plan options include Individual, Duo, Family, and Student.
  1. Go to https://www.spotify.com/premium/ in your web browser. This will open the Spotify Premium page. Make sure you log in to the correct account if you already have one set up.
    • If you don't already have a Spotify account, go ahead and create one at https://spotify.com/signup.
    • You can’t buy Spotify Premium through the app at this time.
  2. It’s a black, oval button near the top of the page.
    • If you've already used up your free trial, you can’t sign up for another one. Instead, click VIEW PLANS to see the details of the various Premium plans and upgrade your account.

  3. There are 4 types of Spotify Premium plans. They all provide ad-free music listening, offline streaming, and on-demand playback. However, there are a couple of different features depending on the subscription type, and they’re all different prices.[1]
    • Individual ($9.99/month) - Use Spotify Premium with 1 account and get ad-free listening, offline streaming, and on-demand playback.
    • Duo ($12.99/month) - Allows you to link Spotify Premium to 2 accounts and offers the same features as the Individual plan.
    • Family ($15.99/month) - Connect up to 6 accounts to Spotify Premium and also get the ability to block explicit music and access Spotify Kids.
    • Student ($4.99/month) - This plan is for students enrolled in an accredited college or university. It also comes with a Hulu (with ads) plan and a free SHOWTIME subscription.
  4. From the dropdown list, select how you'd like to pay. Depending on your region, your payment options may change. However, most regions will allow you to pay with a debit card, credit card, or PayPal.
  5. In the labeled fields, type in your card’s number, expiration date, security code, and your postal code.
    • If you're using PayPal, click START MY SPOTIFY PREMIUM. You'll then be prompted to sign in and authorize Spotify to take payments.
  6. If you're eligible, your 2-month free trial will begin straight away. Otherwise, you'll be charged, and your account will be upgraded to Premium.
    • You'll be charged every 30 days until you cancel your subscription.

    There is no way to get Spotify Premium for free. All those websites claiming that they will generate codes for you if you download a .exe will typically end up with your computer getting malware.

    Check your subscription page -- your status should be Premium. If you're on Premium, try signing out and back into the app. If it says Free, check the receipt the company emailed you Make sure that you're signing in with the username on that receipt. If the username on your receipt is a 10-digit number, sign in with your Facebook login details. It is also possible that you have two accounts, so that's something to check further too. If this fails to help, contact the company.
