Gumtree is a free classified ads website available for users located in the United Kingdom (www.gumtree.com.uk) and Australia (www.gumtree.com.au). To place an ad on Gumtree, you must become a registered user, select your location, and post your content using Gumtree’s ad form. Follow the steps below and you'll be able to finish off an official ad.

  1. Navigate to the official Gumtree website at http://www.gumtree.com/. If you're not already a user, you'll need to create an account to post an ad. Along with that is your location too.
  2. If you're not logged into your user the site will locate you to a sign in or sign up page. Signing up is free and easy to do.

    • Click on “No, I am new to Gumtree” if you are not registered with Gumtree, and follow the on-screen prompts to create your account.
  3. For example, if you want to sell an item, click on “For Sale.”
  4. For example, if you are selling gardening tools, click on “Home and Garden.”
  5. For example, if you clicked on “Home and Garden” to sell gardening tools, you will be prompted to choose a more specific category for your item, such as “Garden and Patio Furniture.”
    • The price field may not be available for some ads depending on the category you selected. For example, ads created for free items under the “Freebies” category will not require you to enter a price.
  6. Photos can often help draw more traffic to your post.
  7. The description should contain all necessary information surrounding the nature of your ad. For example, if you are selling a mobile device, use the description field to inform users about the device’s appearance, condition, make and model, special features, and color.
  8. You can choose for users to contact you by email or telephone based on your preference.
  9. Your ad will now be posted to Gumtree.

Would ads on Gumtree be seen across the nation?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Ads on Gumtree tend to be seen according to the browser's preference for traveling, especially for items that won't be posted. As such, if you live in Sydney and want a trailer, you're probably less inclined to look for one in Perth than one in Newcastle, so you'd filter for the travel distance. However, if the items can be posted, then more people across the country might see them. Gumtree sales can be slower than other forms of selling online but be patient, a buyer is out there somewhere for quality goods at a reasonable price.
