It seems like you may need to get a haircut that suits your curls, hair type, and facial shape. Afterward, be on the lookout for curl stretching creams, which will reduce the tightness of your curly hair. Some brands to keep in mind are Design Essentials, Shea Moisture, and Kera Care.

Pull it up into a bun, or a low bun, or try two french braids. These styles can help to minimize the volume of your hair without too much work.
  • Question
How do I style my hair when the top isn't as curly as the rest of it?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Styling your hair when there are different curl patterns can be very difficult. A cute style that is simple to do would be to pull half of your hair up above your head in a half ponytail. If you need a visual of this hairstyle, go to Google and search "half ponytail curly hair" and click on "Images."

Try adding water to your hair and combing it quickly afterwards. I have curly hair as well and I found cracking an egg open in my hair and massaging it in works really well.

  • Question
My daughter has absolutely mad curly hair! I find it so hard to style it for school without it becoming a problem, what's a good hairstyle for school?

    Community Answer
Brush your daughter's hair and try doing a French or Dutch braid. For a French braid, take a third of your daughter's hair at the top of her head. Split the hair in three, crossing the left section over the middle, then crossing the right section over the new middle section. Then take a piece of hair that is not already in the braid and add it to the left section, then cross the section over. Do the same on the right. Repeat this process until the braid is done and it should contain the frizz.
  • Question
I have naturally curly hair, and I hate it. Underneath my hair is silky and holds its shape, but in the front it's extremely frizzy and dry, and it poofs out everywhere! What do I do?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
It sounds like you are a dancer, gymnast, or athlete. If you're being rough with your hair, it's bound to get dry and tangled. Remember, you'll need to shampoo, condition, AND deep condition once a week. If your hair is 3c or over, protective styles for dance, gymnastics, sports, or otherwise daily life are awesome. Protective styles like Bantu knots can last for two weeks, and the hair will be kept healthy and nice.
  • Question
What are the best hairstyles for naturally curly type 3a hair?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Do either down and fluffy, or a slicked back middle part ponytail that fluffs out into a bushel of curls in the back. Sometimes, I like to take the front most pieces of hair, leave them out, and take the second closest pieces of hair to the front and pull those back.
  • Question
Are mousses and conditioners really so damaging to your hair? When I leave in conditioner or apply it when dry, my hair is so much nicer and less frizzy.

It depends on the mousse and conditioner. Some can be extremely harmful for your hair. The best products for frizzy, curly hair are argan or apricot oil on the ends, and Mielle Leave-In Conditioner and Giovanni Shine of the Times gloss. These are all natural products that will restore your hair and prevent frizz and split ends.
