Quick ways to watch a Fortnite match as a spectator
PDF download Download Article

Do you want to watch your friends play Fortnite? You can easily spectate from the lobby if you don't want to play. You can even spectate while sitting out, but you'll need to keep joining as a spectator if you want to watch more than one match. Here's how to spectate friends and random players in Fortnite on PC, Xbox, PS4, PS5, Switch, or mobile.

Quick Steps

  1. Wait for your friends to enter a match.
  2. Join your friend's party.
  3. Wait at least 30 seconds for them to jump from the bus.
  4. Select Watch or Watch Game.

  1. If you want to spectate a friend without joining the actual match, you'll need to wait until they've entered a match. Otherwise, you'll be queued up with them.
    • You can sit out in Fortnite and spectate, but you'll need to keep joining back as a spectator after each match ends; Fortnite won't move you automatically.[1]
  2. The player must be added to your friend list.

  3. This button is where you'd normally find the Play or Ready button.
    • If you don't see this button, wait at least 30 seconds. You can't spectate friends when they're still on the bus.
    • If the button still doesn't light up, or you don't see it, open your Social tab, select your friend, and then select Watch Game.

  1. Keep in mind this is only if you're spectating after being eliminated. If you're spectating a friend from outside of the match, you can only watch.
    • After being eliminated, make the most of spectating by keeping an eye on the map and pinging landmarks or loot as needed, switch between your other team member's POV, and make verbal callouts to help your team win.
