How to Change to a Different Character in Fortnite

Are you trying to change your character or gender in Fortnite? When you first start playing Fortnite, you may have noticed your character is chosen for you. These are Fortnite's default characters, and you won't be able to change them unless you purchase a skin from the Item Shop. When you do, you can easily change your skin in your Locker. This wikiHow will show you how to change your character outfit in Fortnite Chapter 4.

Things You Should Know

If you don't have any purchased skins from the Item Shop, Fortnite will rotate between default skins.
To equip a purchased skin, select the "Locker" tab. Select the tile with the T-shirt icon. You'll see a list of available outfits.
Select a new outfit, and then select "Equip".

Launch Fortnite. Fortnite is available on PC/Mac, mobile, PlayStation, Xbox consoles, and Nintendo Switch.
- You must have purchased or received a skin in the Item Shop. If you don't have any skins, Fortnite will randomly select a default character for you. This will rotate automatically every few matches.^{[1]

  - This also applies to gender. You won't be able to select a specific gender; this will be randomized unless you have a specific character with a certain gender.
- If you don't have any skins, you'll need to purchase V-Bucks in the V-Bucks tab. Then, head to the Item Shop and select a skin to buy it. You can also receive skins as a gift from friends through the Gift feature.
- Though very rare, you can sometimes earn free skins during limited-time special events. Be sure to keep an eye out for any announcements on the homepage.
This will be at the top, between Compete and Item Shop.

Select the T-Shirt tile. This is the tile to the left of the backpack tile. A new page will open with all available outfits.
- If you already have a character equipped, you'll see your current skin instead of the T-shirt tile.

Select an outfit. An outfit is a character along with any alternate skins. You can select an outfit to see a preview.
- If an outfit has an alternate skin, you can select Edit Style to select it.

Select Equip. This is at the very bottom of the screen. You'll now see the character equipped on the Play tab.
- When you play with friends, they'll be able to see your new skin.
- Fortnite skins do not have a competitive advantage. They all have the same hitbox, so you don't have to worry about larger characters taking more damage. However, if your character wears all black or a certain color that allows them to blend in with the surroundings, this can help you avoid potential enemies.

I don't see any skins except the default. Is there a solution?

That means you haven't brought any skins. You will need to buy some skins from the Item Shop, or buy the Battle Pass, at which point you automatically unlock that season's Tier 1 skin. The others can be unlocked by levelling up.
