How to make the perfect cold brew at home
I'm so tired of spending money on cold brew coffee at a cafe when it seems really easy to make at home. Are there any special supplies I need to start brewing my own, and what's the ratio of coffee to water? Please tell me there's an easy way to get started!
To make traditional cold brew, add room temperature water to coarsely ground coffee and let it sit for a minimum of 12 to 24 hours to brew. Then, filter it through a paper filter. It will be highly concentrated, so add water to dilute the coffee and keep it refrigerated.
I use 1 part coffee grounds to 2 parts filtered water and combine them in a mason jar and let it sit out overnight. And, I don't dilute it before storing it but I dilute each cup by pouring it over ice and adding coffee creamer. It's so yummy and you can make big batches at once!
if you haven't tried french press cold brew it'll change your life. here's my basic recipe:
add 1 cup of ground coffee to the french press
fill a glass/measuring cup with 4 cups of cold water and add just a little bit (like a couple inches) to the french press and stir the coffee grounds so they're nice and saturated
add the rest of the water and stir again
put the lid on then store the press in the fridge for 12 hours up to about a day (i usually go for somewhere between 16-20 hours)
press the plunger down SLOWLY
serve however you like! :) i like it with lavender syrup, crushed ice, and whipped cream on top. experiment with fun flavors!
i generally stick to a ratio of 1:4 coffee to water but you could also do a 1:1 ratio for a really concentrated cold brew and add milk/more water/cream after. the cofee lasts about a week, but tbh i almost always drink it within the day, haha.

if you want to make cold brew coffee like they do at the cafe, don't forget to add a splash of milk or cream! it tastes sooo yummy :)
