How to get gum out of my clothing
I’m going to keep it short. My child loves gum. My child is not good at disposing of gum. I’ve got gum in my shirt and jeans for what feels like the fourth time this year. Is there a lifehack for getting gums out of fabric? And please don’t tell me “stop giving your child gum.” I’ve already gone this route and they just seem to keep getting their hands on it despite my best efforts.
You didn’t actually mention if the gum is wet or not, but I’m assuming it’s dried if you’re just discovering it. Anyway, there’s a simple (but occasionally time-consuming) solution here. Grab an ice cube, rub it against the gum until the gum starts to crumble. Then, use your fingers or a fork to gently scrape the pieces away. Keep repeating this process until the gum is almost entirely gone and then launder your clothing! I am curious if anyone else has any better ideas, though. I’m only aware of the ice trick.
What has worked for me in the past is pouring a generous amount of detergent on the gum, letting it soak for a few minutes, and then pouring salt on it and scrubbing it until it comes out! This has worked for wet and dry gum.
Try rubbing peanut butter or other oily things on it. This should help get most of the gum off. Then treat the residue the same way that you would spot treat your clothing before doing a load of laundry. Make sure you completely clean off the gum before you wash and dry your clothing! It will not come out after you finish washing and drying it.
