I had a dream where my teeth fell out. What does it mean?
Hello wikiHow! I’ve had a curious couple of days here and I’m wondering if you all could help me out. For the past two nights in a row, I’ve had dreams where my teeth fall out. In the first one, I was walking through the park with four dogs and I had to keep dropping the leashes because my teeth would randomly come loose. I was so panicked! The next night, I had a dream that I couldn’t talk because every time I would, my teeth would come out and muck up my speech. I’m wondering what the meaning of these dreams might be? It seems pretty specific to have such a unique dream twice in a row, right?

Oh boy, I used to have these all the time! It even got to a point where I met with a psychoanalyst to try and interpret them and resolve whatever was causing them. They kind of went away on their own at some point, but I had all kinds of explanations I found. So, the big one was just general anxiety. A lot of people report getting these dreams when they’re going through an anxious period in their life. I also heard specifically that this kind of dream is associated with trouble at work, since teeth are what you use to do your body’s most essential job—eat food. There’s also a theory that a dream about a loss of teeth is associated with a loss of control, since you have very little freedom in what you can eat without teeth. But, all of this is highly context-dependent. The meaning can change and shift based on your personal situation.

Losing teeth in your dream can be a symbol of upcoming change or transformation in your life. It's like how in real life when you first lose your baby teeth, you get new teeth in their place. I had recurring dreams about losing my teeth when I was moving out of my hometown for the first time. There was a lot of change going on in my life. I was leaving my family behind, going to a new city, starting a new job. But it all turned out great, and I stopped having teeth dreams after I settled in. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I'm pretty sure that losing teeth in your dream is like one of the most common if not THE most common type of anxiety dream. It's a metaphor for feeling like you're losing control of your life. Sometimes I'll have anxiety attacks, and I find that the frequency of my anxiety attacks coincides with the frequency of teeth-falling-out dreams. You might want to consider if anxiety is impacting any areas of your life or your mental health. If it is, see if you can try some strategies for improving things.
