Is it possible to remove or fade a tattoo at home?
Hello my fellow wikiHowians! Long story short, I’ve got a tattoo I want to get rid of. I’d like to completely remove it if possible, but I’m also down to just cover it up if I can’t remove it. I really can’t afford laser removal right now though, and it’ll be a while before I can cover it up with another tattoo if that’s what needs to happen. I’m curious if there are any DIY tattoo removal methods I could pursue? Are there like…creams or natural solutions that will get rid of the tattoo? Can I replicate laser removal at home? I’d even be down to try just lightening it a bit if I can’t get it fully off.
So, you can’t do a laser removal safely at home on your own. I know there are people out there that buy the laser guns themselves and try this, and it can work in theory, but you’re very likely to permanently scar your skin or create hyperpigmentation. There’s a reason the professional laser sessions are completed by medical professionals. There are also hacks out there involving salt and dermabrasion, but again, this is super unsafe. There are lemon juice hacks, creams, and all kind of ideas out there, but none of them are proven to be safe or effective by the FDA. I’d leave it to the professionals if you can.
It's really not worth it to try and remove a tattoo at home. You open yourself up to infection and scarring if you don't do it right. If there were a safe, effective way to remove tattoos at home, people wouldn't be paying thousands of dollars to get their tattoos removed. It'll be worth the money to get it done professionally!
I tried a tattoo removal cream and it didn't work for me. It actually made things worse :( If I could go back and remove my tattoo the proper way, I would. Please learn from my experience and get your removal done the right way.
