My friend recently moved into a new place and I want to get her a fun, unique housewarming gift, but I don't know what to get. I don't want to give her something that will be annoying, too big, or burdensome, or something she'll have to take care of if she's not prepared to do so (like a fussy plant). I also am hoping for something that's affordable. Any and all ideas welcome!!!

Lots of fun housewarming gifts you could give! :)

- Get her an item that will help her new space feel like home. Flowers in a vase, a bird feeder, wind chimes, candles, framed artwork, etc.
- On the more unique end, one friend got me a self-inking return address stamp with my new address on it. I loved it and I still have it even though I've since moved again, haha. It's super practical, but also very sentimental and thoughtful! You can give it to her with a set of fun stamps and stationery, if you want.
- If your friend is a drinker, alcohol is a nice way to celebrate, plus it can be a nice way to unwind after moving heavy furniture and unpacking boxes all day.
- If she's having a housewarming party, get something festive that she'll appreciate during the party and beyond. Bring wine glasses and a bottle of wine, or make up an elegant charcuterie board and let her keep the board when the party's over.

Intimacy and kinship can be great gifts! You could offer to come over to your friend’s place to cook a fancy meal and hang out, or you could surprise them with a special outing somewhere that means a lot to them. So, if you’re struggling to figure out what you should buy them, try to think about how they really enjoy spending their time. That should lead you in the right direction.

Keep it simple and pick something that she’ll actually use. Get her a comfortable throw blanket, a candle, a desk vacuum, or something in that vein that she’ll be able to get a lot of use out of around the house. I know it’s tempting to go out and find the most novel gift out there, but it’s a housewarming gift. She just moved into a new place and could probably use anything that’ll help her clean or get comfy around the house.

Get her a mug warmer! They’re cheap, so it hits your affordability rubric, and it’s super unique compared to the common gifts out there. Plus, your friend will get a ton of mileage out of it. Who among us hasn’t made a cup of coffee or tea just to let it cool off way too much while we were waiting for it to cool off a little bit? I use my mug warmer almost every day—it’s awesome.

if she bought a house, fire extinguishers, stud finders, water leak detectors, or a tool box are great gifts for a first-time homeowner. They may seem overly practical but they're so useful, and she'll definitely need them at some point, that IMHO they're really some of the most thoughtful things you could give

Consider your friend's personality and her likes and dislikes. If she loves to cook, get her some handmade pasta, fancy olive oil or salt, or a luxurious ingredient like trufffles. If she loves taking baths, get her a bath tray, bath pillow, soft robe, or fancy bath products. If she loves to host, get her nice linen napkins, wineglass charms, champagne flutes, or rocks glasses. If she enjous gardening, get her a nice set of garden tools and gloves. You get the idea!

Sometimes it doesn't matter what gift you give to the person. They may associate an emotional connection with whatever gift you get and it will still be meaningful to them.

A good idea is to go out with them and let them spend a certain amount of gift money. For example, you could give them $100 and go with them on a shopping spree.

If the party is to celebrate something bring something relevant if you can. Like a bottle of wine is a good present for a dinner party in general, but if it's a housewarming party bring something that will add joy to the atmosphere but also is specific to the situation. For instance, give them the wine, but include a fancy new bottle opener, maybe one that attaches to the wall.

You can always ask what the host needs ahead of time. Surprises are overrated. You can still take your gift up a notch even if it's not a surprise: ff they need alcohol, bring them a nice wine or beer you know they love. If they need dessert, make a nice cake yourself.
