What does it feel like to be in love?

I don't think I've ever been in love before, but I know it's supposed to be the best feeling in the world. What does it feel like? How do you know when you're in love?

I believe with every fiber that it is a matter of biochemical response. When we "fall in love," there is something that happens inside of us that creates a feeling of euphoria. It is an incredible feeling and happens so little in our lives. We get silly in the beginning of love. We lose our inhibitions or become shy. We act playful and eagerly anticipate responses. When we're in love, we behave differently from how we do in our daily grind.

Wow, where do I even start. When you're in love, your partner is all you can think about. You wake up thinking about them, find yourself daydreaming about them throughout the day, go to sleep thinking about them, even dream about them sometimes. Everything reminds you of them. Even the thought of them brings a smile to your face and you feel giddy all the time.

When you're with them, the rest of the world falls away.

I didn't truly understand that you could get lost in someone's eyes until I met my wife. She has the most beautiful eyes. I want to spend all my time with her and when we're apart from each other I miss her dearly. I feel so safe with her. I would do anything for her.

That sounds incredible, I'm happy for you. But I'm jealous! I've been in a handful of relationships before, and I've never felt like that with any of my partners. I've even had relationships that lasted a couple years and I never felt that way. Is it just me? Am I the problem?

Some people might fall in love easily because they want to fall in love. People who are very relationship-oriented or who have life goals that require falling in love would be primed to make that a priority. They have a bit of a bias to look for reasons to let go and fall in love.

For example, if you are a 33-year-old woman and want to get married and have kids, you're going to feel time pressure from your biological clock. So you might be more likely to just go with it and be motivated to fall in love. You're looking for a particular outcome more so than some who is 25 and just getting their life started.

Another factor is your personal level of agreeableness. That's actually a personality trait. If you're high on agreeableness, then you're less likely to find conflicts or see things as insurmountable barriers. So you're more open to falling in love. I would say your history with love and relationships would also be a factor. If you have a history of falling for people and having your heart broken, you might naturally be more guarded. But if you're a very young adult and have never been hurt before, you might be very open and quick to fall in love.

Hey! So I myself relate to your post, I have never been really inlove either. So I can't give you good advice too. Lately I've come to the term "aromantic". It means that you feel little to no romantic attraction, it's a big spectrum and if this could sound interesting to you, I'd recommend to look it up :) Good luck!

One thing I’ve learned is that you should be honest. If you’re too scared to tell him in person, text him. Be open about everything. If you can’t find the words, ask chatgpt. But the most important thing is to be truthful. If you really are in love, and really want a relationship with him, tell him. Getting rejected is better than years of what-ifs. You can do this. Keep your calm, be confident and remember you’re beautiful and a wonderful person. He would be stupid to reject you.

I saw from a previous comment what it feels like to be in love, and it matches perfectly with how I feel. I've been talking with this guy for a few months and it's been amazing. We have each other's numbers now and we talk for hours everyday on end. I think about him almost all the time and when I see his text, I get giddy and feel like my stomach has flipped. Not just butterflies, but FLIPPED. I can't imagine my future without him in it and even dream about him. Sometimes, I'll be sitting watching a movie and thinking with my family"Man, I really want to be in h/n's arms right now." We both have a thing where we'll go ":)" to each other with each other's emoticon facing towards its sender's respective side (which he started by the way). We both talk and compliment each other on almost anything and we both apologize for even responding late to each other. My first (and only) relationship was super terrible and I've been struggling with getting into relationships again, but this feels so natural and lovely. I've never felt this happy since my mother was alive and healthy. I really think I'm falling in love, but here's the catch: I'm younger. Like teenage young. My parents were highschool sweethearts who were deeply in love, and I was wondering if this guy and I might be the same way. I truly think this is one of the best feelings I've ever felt in my life. People say I'm in love, but I want to see if anyone else thinks so or disagrees. Thoughts, anyone?

By the way you’re talk about him, it seems like you’re absolutely obsessed with him, but not in a bad way. I think you should absolutely tell him how you feel because you only find people like that once or twice in a lifetime. Hope this helps!

If you think that you’re in love, then you probably are. As for describing what it feels like… it’s like heaven. Before I fell in love, I didn’t know what people meant when they said that the world fell away. Now, the world falls away whenever I am with my partner.

I have a crush on this guy in my class and literally he is all I can think about. Like we both like music, and we're both in the same bands at school, (he plays trumpet and I play piano) and he is like soooo cute... Every time I see him my stomach actually digests itself. We sit in the same table group and we talk a lot, but I'm not sure if he likes me like I do to him. So now I'm just like... ARHGHGHGH what should I do???

I used to be so sad and then this new guy came to my class, and I was assigned with the job of showing him the ropes and I thought that I wouldn't like him at all and then after the first week I started becoming the happy me I used to be and at first, I thought it was nothing but later on I realised it was him making me happy again and then I got scared because my last relationship didn't end well but anyway he started flirting with me and me deciding to take a tiny step out of the box flirted back. Sorry let me get to the point I realised at some point that I fell in love with him and I hard but the next day I came to the school and found out he had to move again, and I didn't even have his number...so my point is don't let a past relationship gone bad rule you into hiding from a new one, causing you to lose your chance of happiness.

Oh my god... I am so sorry to hear that. What an important lesson to learn from your story. I have a similar story. There was a boy who moved to my school, and he was in my class. Throughout the first two weeks, we started to talk with each other. Soon I realised that I had feelings for him, and I started to observe him more. He talks to me much more than with the other girls, and he checks up on me when I get hurt by the ball in PE and once he patted me on the back encouragingly when I missed the goal when I tried to score a goal. I might start getting more physical with him, like touching him gently on the shoulder or smth.

for me, I would say I get this weird feeling in my chest. it's like a trembling kind of feeling, it's not fear, it's different than that. It sounds like fear, but its not. I also miss them whenever they're not around. like, i'm on Thanksgiving break right now, and that's a whole 9 days without seeing them. I CAN'T make it that far. They are always on my mind, and I freak whenever I see them in public. Sometimes when I'm around them, they literally make my hands turn purple and I have to take deep breaths and slow down my thoughts to make it go away. They trigger my anxiety too. And I dream about them a lot. Last night was actually the first night in a while where I didn't dream about them.

wild, I've never felt anything like that. I really want love and sexual desire in theory, but I have never felt any actual desire towards another person. I keep trying to date people but when I'm with them I don't have a natural desire to give physical affection. I want to feel that desire to much that sometimes I mistake my want for desire as actual desire for that person then I end up running out of energy. I just end up with a sort of hollow emptiness in my chest like there's supposed to be something there but it's just not there for me. I really like people, and i want to feel that type of passion and closeness and intimacy, but I just dont

I am nothing more but a teenage girl, I'm delusional, overthinking things, and a mess. But seeing him makes it so much better. Whenever I see him walk through that classroom door, I feel myself smile, I can feel myself blush, and the butterflies start to dance around in my stomach, my whole world light up when I'm around him. I email him and he emails me back, and when he doesn't I panic, I start overthining things, telling myself that he think's I'm annoying and pushy and that's why he's not responding to me. But then we make eye contact, he starts to smile, I start to smile, and his face turns into this adorable shade of hot pink, then it's my turn to blush. Then we stop and he's left me smitten. Where I live it is two days till winter break, and I don't think I can make it two weeks without seeing him. I can barely make it a day without him. Whenever he doesn't show up to school my smile wipes away. He makes me so happy, he makes me better. I have moderate depression and anxiety, but ever since he came into my life, I haven't had a panic attack, and I haven't gone through an episode where I'm constantly depressed in so long. If you were to ask me what's one thing that annoys me about him, I would only say one thing, and that one thing would be that I can't call him mine. I have dreams where we call eachother and fall asleep on the phone, dreams where I'm wearing his hoodies and hats, where we share ear buds and listen to our playlist on the bus ride home, together on the small little seat, I have dreams where I rest my head on his shoulder, and he rests his on top of mine. My friends say that he told them he likes me, and I can't believe it, I finally have the chance to call him mine. I can finally live my dream life.

There's this myth out there that falling in love has to be this instantaneous thing that happens in the blink of an eye and sweeps you off of your feet. The reality is that love is often a quiet thing that sort of creeps up on you, often out of nowhere. Don't write someone off if you're into them just because you didn't fall in love instantly.
Anonymous Reader
Anonymous Reader
Some people don't experience romantic attraction (aromantic), and not everyone is able to experience sexual desire (asexual). If you aren't sure you know how to identify the feeling of love or something feels "wrong" to you, don't sweat it. Everybody is different and you'll discover what's right for you over time.
Anonymous Reader

Don't worry about falling in love too much. This kind of thing will happen naturally over time, and if you look to hard for something you may not find what you're really supposed to have. In other words, just enjoy your relationships, date, and you'll find the right person for you.
Anonymous Reader

Get to know their family. With a few exceptions, they are part of the package and you should like their family (or at least be good at communicating boundaries in a respectful way) if you want to get married.

It's very normal for couples to fight after the honeymoon phase has ended. Don't assume you can't still be in love with someone and be angry with them at the same time! Every relationship has their little tiffs and scraps. It doesn't mean you two don't love one another.
Anonymous Reader

Remind your partner that you love them regularly. It may sound like a canned thing you just end up saying in intervals (like "how are you" or "see you later"), but it's actually really important for most people to hear those words from their partner frequently.
Anonymous Reader
Anonymous Reader
It is possible to love someone and know that you shouldn't (or can't) have them in your life. For example, you might love your brother but if they're a drug addict who continues to steal from you, the kind thing to do is cut them off. All of this is to say that being in love with someone doesn't automatically mean they're the right person for you.
Anonymous Reader

If you think you're in love but you aren't sure, talk to a parent or counselor about it. It can be kind of complicated to figure these kinds of feelings out, and guidance from someone with a bit of a life experience can be a huge boon.

Love is always a two-way street. If you think you're in love but the other person isn't treating you with care or respect, it's a sign that they aren't honoring your commitment with love.
